Disney to produce animation in Japan

MUMBAI: In an attempt to establish itself well in Asia, The Walt Disney company will produce animations in Japan. As a part of its plan, Disney's cartoon TV characters Lilo and Stitch will be presented in a localized version.

Disney has teamed up with Madhouse Ltd to produce the series which will be aired in October.


The Disney show, about the adventures of a girl named Lilo and a blue alien called Stitch, will go on air in October on the Japanese edition of Disney's pay television channel.

In another announcement, The Walt Disney Japan said that it also planned to partner with the makers of Dragonball Z, Toei Animation Co Ltd to make a robot adventure using computer graphics.

The Japan anime industry is estimated to be $2.5 billion.
